A frame from a roll out of my Diana + camera with the 35mm back on it. It exposes the whole area of the film, right to the edges including the sprocket holes.

It’s difficult to scan these frames. To get a decent quality scan (not just a flatbed contact sheet scan like this one) the film needs to be the right distance above the scanning surface. That’s about 2mm. My scanner has a film holder but it covers up the sprocket holes so I can’t use that holder. I use magnets that are about the right height to hold the strip of film in the right plane.

This is the scanning work I want to complete today. Might be about 2 hours work I think but it could take me all day with social engagements and other normal Sunday type stuff that one does.

Wellsy telling himself off. For clowning around no doubt.

Even on a screenshot of a crappy contact sheet scan, it’s plain to see how good Agfa APX 400 is with shadows and tones in general. It’s beautiful film.

Looks like some fun was had at Anzac day. Obviously it’s been a while since I took these shots and I had no idea what I had on those rolls anyway. It’s good to finally see them.

Another complete roll of The Medics that I previously blogged about at the Powerhouse. This roll is Agfa APX 400 but I’m pretty sure the roll from my previous post was Fuji Neopan 1600. Interesting to see how the Agfa turns out in those lighting conditions.

Agfa looks pretty good so far in these conditions.

This is what part of my scanning workspace looks like.

Here I am going through the most recent batch of contact sheets I scanned and marking out individual frames that I will scan later at high resolution. And I have to use keywords to keep it all organised as with film there is no EXIF data automatically saved for me.

Brendan clowning around in the kitchen of the Lychee Lounge

I like backlighting and this scene gave me a chance to work with really good back lighting. It’s not that the light in the kitchen was that strong, it was just normal, but it was so dark in the room I was in that the difference between the two was a lot. A lot more than the dynamic range of film (or digital for that matter) can handle.

A couple of frames from behind the scenes of a photo shoot or Sherlock’s exhibition.

Another one from Archive. Love those lights. It was mostly the lights that I liked about this shot.
